World Naked Bike Ride
Every year in June, cyclists and environmentalists
are asked to shed their clothes to protest against our
dependency on oil. The World Naked Bike Ride is held in
several countries across the globe, and organisers ask
individuals to plan their own nude bike ride on the day.
Rides have occurred in Brazil, Canada, New Zealand, the
US, UK, and numerous countries in the European Union.
The idea originally started in Spain in 2001,
and that country has hosted two annual naked bike riding events
to protest against pollution, the textile industry and oil in
general.
Participants are encouraged to wear body paint, and are
not restricted to riding bicycles. Rollerblads, scooters and
skateboards are also acceptable methods of transport on the
day.
The event is supported by numerous nudist
organisations, as well as cycling advocates, who urge a car-free
world.
